We younger Negro artists who create now intend to
express our individual dark-skinned selves without
fear or shame. If white people are pleased we are
glad. If they are not, it doesn't matter.
We know we are beautiful. And ugly too.
-Langston Hughes, circa 1926, the Harlem Renaissance
We believe finally that Negro art without
Negro patronage is an impossibility.
-The Niggerati, circa 1926, the Harlem Renaissance
If there ever is to be another
movement in Detroit, it is gonna
happen with the artists, that
being the poets, painters,
writers, singers, spoken word
artists, musicians, etc.....and it
has already begun

I am becoming addicted to uplifting my community and city.
I am becoming addicted to BEING ABOUT IT, rather than
just Taking about it. I am becoming addicted to
conceptualizing SOLUTIONS, as opposed to, dramatizing
ever-growing, supportive, TRUE ARTIST in my hometown...

Everyone around the nation says Detroit has lost it. Tracie and I say Detroit has
once again found it! They say Detroit is not a safe place to visit, travel, and our
Arts & Entertainment Culture died with Barry Gordy and Motown. Tracie and I say
It is alive, well, and we can show you better than we can tell you. They say the
people of Detroit are nothing but a bunch of hoodlums, and friendships and
businesses last as long as a HOT NEW YORK MINUTE. Again Tracie and I beg to
differ and those overrated preconceived notions and opinions coming from other
parts of the country are inaccurate and false.
